Break Through School is looking for an outstanding, motivated senior leader to take on an exciting role, that offers excellent opportunities for career progression.

As an independent alternative provision, we teach young people with SEMH, ASD, ADHD and communication difficulties.

The school is unique, with enthusiastic pupils, and a dedicated, supportive team of staff. We are looking for an exceptional Deputy Head Teacher, who will have a proven track record of leading behaviour and safeguarding, and experience of preparing a galvanising curriculum which engages all students.

It is essential that you can be solution-focused and can think outside of the box. With excellent management and organisational skills, you place the holistic progress of young people at the centre of all you do. Experience of SEND would be an advantage.

The role will not only offer outstanding job satisfaction, but also excellent opportunities to progress in a growing school.

Break Through school is committed to its staff, with 2 hours of dedicated training and development a week, staff social events and 24-hour wellbeing support.

This is an opportunity to grow and make a difference, and we would strongly encourage applicants to visit us.

Please contact info@breakthroughschool.co.uk or 01322 440049 to arrange a visit or informal conversation with the Head Teacher

References will be taken up before interview and the successful applicant will require an enhanced DBS check.

Information about the school

Break Through is a small alternative independent school with 25 to 45 young people on roll a day, years 7 through to 12 at risk of exclusion, not on an educational roll, the self excluded and on fixed term exclusion. Some students are on roll at a mainstream school and some are on roll at Break Through only. A number of students have an EHCP plan and some have Social Service support.

The staff team at Break Through recognise there are often multiple and complex needs that can be reflected in young people’s behaviour. Some young people are not yet equipped with the emotional intelligence to sustain or engage with education. Others need to be re-motivated, refocused and re-engaged towards viewing their futures positively. Our over arching aim is for young people to successfully reintegrate into mainstream provision. If reintegration is not considered a suitable option, in partnership with other agencies Break Through will support the young person onto their next progression route.

A structured timetable includes Maths, English, ICT, Science, Art, Life Skills and PE; other curriculum areas are also covered and linked to accredited programmes; all of which are embedded with Personal, Social, Emotional and Behavioural Development. Partnership working is paramount to this programme, Break Through work closely with Teachers, Key Workers, Parents/Carers/Guardians and Young People to seek resolutions to presenting problems.

Break Through’s needs led approach enables staff to be adaptable and holistic in delivery and assessment; and barriers to participation are alleviated.
