Advert

We, at Foreland Fields School, are looking to appoint a new governor to our Governor Board.  Being a school governor is a challenging but hugely rewarding role. It will give you the chance to make a real difference to young people, give something back to the local community, and use and develop your skills in a board-level environment.

We are keen to recruit a governor with skills and expertise in either education, finance, legal or safeguarding.  We also welcome contact from anyone who is interested in school governance and wants to help to contribute to Foreland Fields School future success.

Schools need governing boards that have a balance and diversity of knowledge, skills and experience to enable it to be effective. However, no special qualifications are needed. The most important thing is that you have a keen interest in the school, and are prepared to play an active part in the governing body’s work.  Governors should also be committed to their role and to young people; confident in having courageous conversations; curious with an enquiring mind; able to challenge the status quo to improve things; collaborative to build strong relationships; critical to improve their own work and that of the board; and creative in problem solving and being innovative.

The average time commitment is between five - eight hours per month. This includes meetings, background reading and school visits. As well as full governing board meetings, you would be attached to one of two committees (Resources or Learning and Development).  Although the full governing board meetings take place in the evenings, the committee meetings generally take place afternoons.

If you think the above could be for you and are interested in offering your time, please complete the attached application form telling us a little about yourself and detailing why you would like to become a governor at our school, as well as what skills you feel you can bring to the role.  Please email the completed application form to kaymerry@foreland.kent.sch.uk.  Once received, your interest will be forwarded onto our Chair of Governors for review and consideration.  If you have any questions about the role, please email Kay Merry, Clerk to the Governors via kaymerry@foreland.kent.sch.uk.
