 The History department at the Malling School are welcoming applications for a Teacher of History. This role would be perfect for an experienced teacher looking for a new challenge or an excellent NQT who would be mentored and supported through our Early Careers Teachers programme. The school are seeking to appoint for June or September 2021.

This is an exciting time to join the History department as we continue to adapt our curriculum to challenge our pupils. This position will allow the candidate to join a collaborative, friendly and supportive team of strong practitioners to ensure a high standard of teaching, learning and achievement. We pride ourselves in our diverse and thought-provoking curriculum which explores topics such as West African Kingdoms, Suffragettes and Migration to Britain.

The Malling School prides itself on developing highly effective teachers and supporting improvements through meaningful professional development. We have no formal lesson observations and a strong open culture of improving our teaching together through regular, low stakes developmental learning walks, the new staff mentoring programme that promotes the development of high quality teaching in a non-judgmental way, and constructive use of departmental time that focusses on subject development. CPD also includes weekly pedagogy-linked lecturettes and opportunities to work with peers on the development of effective teaching & learning.

We have a very strong behaviour for learning policy that means low-level disruption is not tolerated, allowing teachers to do what we do best- teach. All staff receive regular positive behaviour support training to ensure we are consistent in our application of the policy. Students are very clear about our high expectations of behaviour & attitude in every classroom.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a good degree of equivalent.
  • The ability to teach History at KS3 and KS4 is essential, GCSE and IB teaching is preferable
  • Be motivated by a desire to change lives for the better.
  • Have qualified teacher status.

Information about the school

A mixed 11-19 co-educational High School of 1000 pupils serving the historic market town of West Malling and surrounding villages. The school is set in pleasant rural surroundings and has its own lake and extensive grounds. It was completely re-built in September 2007 and therefore has outstanding facilities.

West Malling is close to the county town of Maidstone and has excellent rail links to London and Ashford International (for the Continent).
