We are looking for a highly organised and dedicated individual to join our team. A working knowledge of the best practice and the ability to inspire and support both children and adults will be a key requirement. An active willingness to contribute to whole school improvement is vital. The post will require daily 1:1 and small group support and academic and pastoral needs.   There will also be some personal care requirements for a child with additional needs and the post holder must be prepared to undertake them.

The successful candidate will be the key person supporting a child with severe and complex needs.  The main responsibilities will include:

  • Working with the child 1:1 and as part of a small group to meet academic needs, ensuring targets and outcomes are met.
  • Supporting use of the toilet; involving intimate care needs such as cleaning and changing which you MUST be prepared to undertake.
  • Ensuring safe movement around the school building and site, including during P.E. sessions.
  • Daily physio support following a therapist designed programme.
  • Daily speech and language support following a targeted plan.
  • Liaison with parents and other professionals involved with the child e.g. OT, Physio etc.
  • Keeping progress and achievement records.

In order to be shortlisted for interview and subsequently appointed, applicants MUST demonstrate a secure understanding of these expectations, along with relevant experience, on the application form and at interview.

 

Initially this post will be in Key Stage 1, unitl the end of the academic year.

The successful candidate will also be expected to take a full part in lunchtime activities and supervision. So an ability to play, have fun, actively supervise and a good deal of common sense is essential. In addition to this, all employees of the school are expected to contribute to the wider life of the school community and candidates should be mindful of this when applying for the position.

Candidates must have experience of working with children in Key Stage 1 and 2  and be able to offer expertise in specific recognised learning intervention programmes. A knowledge of the Read Write Inc would also be useful. An understanding of the demands of the new National Curriculum is essential.

Shortlisted candidates may be observed working with children as part of the selection process and will be expected to have visited the school prior to interview.

HOURS OF WORK - This is a fixed term post until the end of this academic year the hours of work will be 8.30-15.30, 5 days per week. TERM TIME ONLY PLUS TEACHER TRAINING DAYS

Pay - Kent Scheme 3 pro rata.
