ALP Schools are experiencing an exciting time as we are growing both in numbers of schools, staff, pupils, and our positive reputation. Our schools provide continuity in learning for learners with Education, Health, and Care Plans. We offer short to long term provision for learners who are on the autistic spectrum or who have other special educational needs and challenging behaviour. We cater for young people aged between 6 and 25. The overarching purpose of our provision is to work with young people so that they are able to overcome the barriers to learning that they have previously encountered. We aim to offer flexible, structured, and supportive needs-led approaches with the goal of working towards re-integration progression to a long term educational setting or into employment, education, and training. In order to achieve this, we offer part-time or full-time education according to the assessment of the learner's needs.

We are looking to extend our Governing Body, or Executive Board as we refer to it, with individuals who have enthusiasm and passion for supporting our schools, our aims, and our values.  There are opportunities for people who feel they can effectively contribute their knowledge and experience in all areas of the school from teaching to business and finance. We are looking for individuals who feel able to support the schools in one or more aspects of education and effective school management.

The areas of expertise that we are seeking support in are as follows:

  • Safeguarding and child protection
  • Teaching and Learning
  • Health and Safety
  • Business and Finance
  • Leadership and Management
  • Human Resources
  • Strategic planning
  • Community Awareness
  • Special educational needs and disabilities
  • Careers and the world of work

We currently have schools based in Gravesend, Welling, Leicester, and Nuneaton. The board meets six times a year. Three times at a local level and three times as a collective. There are opportunities to be a part of the full school model or on a local level in one of the schools. Local meetings are for 2 hours and all-school meetings can be full-day events.

Membership of the board would be on a voluntary basis, but we do pay expenses for travel, accommodation, and overnight stays as and when required.

We welcome discussing the opportunity further or allowing people to have a visit to one or more of the schools.

Information about the school

ALP Schools aims to create flexible, individualised programmes of learning support for young people who, for a variety of reasons, are unable to access mainstream education.

From the point of referral, we focus on the special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) of the learner and on family support, in order to provide the most effective and appropriate educational intervention.

Working closely with the Local Authorities and local colleges, schools and academies we provide outcomes that are in accordance with the individual needs of each learner. We specialise in emergency, short, medium and long term education placements of young people with SEND including (but not limited to) Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Emotional, Social and Behavioural Difficulties, challenging behaviour and mental health difficulties.

Our overall aim is to reintegrate or progress learners into suitable, long term education, training or employment. To achieve this, ALP Schools provides a more informal and nurturing approach to teaching and learning where dedicated tutors develop a close working relationship with the learners and their families.
