School of Science and Technology Maidstone is a new state of the art secondary free school opening in September 2020 as part of the Valley Invicta Academy Trust. The school is a mainstream non-selective mixed secondary school.

This post will be for 37 hours per week, term time only.  The salary will be paid at VIAT 5 £17,580 to £19,272 (pro-rata to £21,318 to £23,249 for a full-time post).

We are currently recruiting for a Learning Mentor to join our new staff team to provide one to one, small group and class-based support to meet the needs of identified students, including students with Physical Disabilities. You will be crucial in supporting students with their learning, development and progress in all areas of the curriculum and within a range of learning contexts.

If you are passionate about working in a dynamic team to provide inclusive support to enable students to have full and effective access to the secondary school curriculum, we would love to hear from you.

Key roles and responsibilities will include:

  • Working effectively and pro-actively as part of the SEN and Inclusion teams.
  • Working positively and inclusively with teachers to meet the needs of students with a range of SEN, including Physical Disabilities, ASD and learning needs.
  • Providing high quality support to enable students to access and make progress in lessons- this may include support with assistive technology and support to read/ scribe for students.
  • Liaising directly with teaching staff and the wider team to provide feedback about progress made by students and provide support to differentiate learning where needed.
  • Providing 1:1 support with personal care to students (dressing, toileting, washing as needed).
  • Liaising with specialist professionals to then be able to effectively deliver individualised therapy programmes.
  • Maintaining high quality records of support provided and progress made.
