Are you the very special teacher we need for our pupils? We are seeking to appoint a flexible Key Stage 1/2 Teacher for our Satellite unit based within West Borough Primary School from September 2020. The post is offered as maternity cover of up to 12 months. This is a twelve  to fifteen place satellite provision  for pupils in years 2-6 who have a diagnosis of an Autism Spectrum Condition and are cognitively able to function academically alongside mainstream peers with appropriate strategies and support. Pupils in our satellite provision will usually progress to mainstream secondary schools (including grammar schools) who have designated ASC provision. The successful candidate will be joining a small lively, enthusiastic and supportive team with many opportunities for continuing professional development. 

We are looking for a dynamic and creative teacher who is an excellent classroom practitioner with very good knowledge and experience of teaching children with Autism. You must be resourceful, positive and motivated with a good sense of humour.  You will share our belief that all pupils can achieve and be successful.  You will have the ability to organise, inspire and motivate young people with special educational needs and social, emotional and mental health difficulties. You will be confident to liaise with staff at the West Borough School.

This post will require the following skills:

  • Good curriculum knowledge and an ability to plan creatively for pupils who require personalised learning and classroom strategies for teaching children with Autism
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as this post will require significant collaborative working with teaching colleagues, parents and multi-agency providers.
  • Experience of working with pupils with behaviour and social communication difficulties and Autism.
  • Commitment to undertake continuing professional development.
  • Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills.
  • Strong emotional resilience.
  • Empathy and understanding towards young people.
  • Knowledge of the process of managing Educational Health and Care Plans.
