This is a new senior leadership role, as part of a restructure, that will provide more capacity to meet the needs of all.

The role (will include):

  • Reporting to Deputy Head Teacher (Inclusion), supporting the strategic development of SEN policy and provision
  • Responsibility for ensuring SEND children make good progress
  • Ensuring the SEN policy is put into practice
  • Leading aspects of school self-evaluation
  • Working closely with colleagues, parents, governors and other agencies
  • Line managing Teaching Assistants (Years 1-6), SEN Teaching Assistants and Specialist Teaching assistants including undertaking performance management
  • Supporting and challenging teachers and other leaders in relation to SEND
  • Evaluating whether funding is being used effectively, and propose changes 
  • Overarching leadership of nurture group provision
  • Internal and external CPD including access to Nurture Group Network, Challenge Partners and more to enhance skills and understanding.

The person (must have): 

  • Evidence of accelerating progress and raising attainment of children with special needs.
  • Recent experience of working successfully as a senior or middle leader in a school.
  • An excellent understanding of best practice in teaching and learning, particularly related to SEND and pupil progress
  • Achieved the National Award for Special Educational Needs (SEN) Coordination, or will achieve this at Whitehill within three years of appointment if you do not have this.
