We are looking to recruit a Teaching Assistant to work in the Phoenix Centre for Autism at Cage Green Primary School.

The Phoenix Centre for Autism is a specialist resource provision for 31 primary aged children, at Cage Green Primary School.  There are three classes with approximately 10 children per class.  The centre provides an adapted National Curriculum offering to our children, taking into account their communication, social, physical and sensory needs.

You will be a class TA working with the class teacher to support learning within the classroom environment including split input teaching and working with targeted groups of children.  You will also support the children at lunchtime by providing games and activities to keep them engaged or supporting the children while they eat. You may also support children with their integration into mainstream classes.

 

The successful applicant should:

  • Have an interest in working with children with additional needs
  • Have a good understanding of behaviour management and how this relates to managing a class of children with additional needs. 
  • Have good mathematics and English
  • Be able to communicate well with children, parents and colleagues and enjoy working as part of a supportive and reflective team. 
  • Be able to adapt activities towards children’s learning abilities
  • Be flexible and able to respond to children’s needs, thinking on your feet and remaining calm under pressure.
  • Have a sound knowledge and understanding of the safeguarding of children
  • Be forward thinking and proactive
  • Have a good sense of humour and be ready to dress up for various events including world book day.
  • Previous experience as a teaching assistant in a primary school age group setting or of working with children with an autistic spectrum condition is desirable.
