A exciting opportunity has arisen for a Chair of Governors at Northfleet Nursery School.

The Chair will be required to provide clear lead and direction, ensuring that our Governors work as an effective team and understand their own roles. The ideal candidate will have some experience of school governance (although this is not essential) and will have demonstrated leadership skills in a board or committee setting.

The Chair is required to ensure that meetings are run effectively, focusing on priorities and ensuring that all Board members have an equal opportunity to participate in discussion and decision making.

The successful candidate will establish an effective relationship with the Headteacher based on trust and mutual respect for each other's roles within the school community.

The Clerk to the Governors will help support the Chair in their role and offer any support as and when required.

As well as an interest in and a commitment to the education sector we are seeking the following personal attributes:

  • Team focused with strong leadership skills
  • A willingness to commit the required time and effort
  • An ability to challenge appropriately
  • Provide ideas, solutions and act as a role model to the Governing Board

Information about the school

Northfleet Nursery School has been graded Outstanding 5 consecutive times and is the only stand–alone maintained Nursery School funded by Kent County Council. We have a school PAN of 93 and take admissions from the local community in Northfleet and the surrounding area. The nursery uses the High/Scope approach which actively involves the children in exploring and learning about things that are important to children in the early years.
