Due to expansion, we are currently recruiting for a Deputy Head to support the Headteacher in the day to day running of our school for KS3 & KS4 pupils.

Salary Range: Competitive

Permanent – Full Time (40 hours per week)

Suitable candidates will need to have at least 3 years’ experience of working with children with challenging behaviour and show evidence of recent management development. Whilst experience is highly valued we are also keen to interview staff with limited experience but with good aptitude. Applications are welcome from candidates who have also worked within a secure unit environment.

Duties

  • Act as the Head of School in the absence of the Headteacher.
  • Act as a member of the school management team.
  • Assist the Headteacher in (implementing) the aims for the school.
  • Assist the Headteacher in developing, reviewing and implementing school policy & procedures
  • Share the responsibility for promoting effective teaching and learning throughout the school.
  • Have specific responsibility across the whole school for the dissemination of specialist teaching and learning strategies. Act as a consultant, giving advice and assistance to staff to maintain and develop their skills.
  • Through the performance management process assist the professional development of staff.
  • Assist the Headteacher in monitoring and evaluating the work of staff colleagues to ensure that it supports the school policy, plans and targets. Feedback this information to staff and carry out appropriate action as necessary.
  • Monitor and evaluate standards across the school providing support to colleagues and reports/recommendations for the Headteacher & Proprietor/s.
  • Assist the Headteacher in the organisation and performance management of staff. Agree targets with staff and ensure that these are carried out and achieved.
  • Liaise with outside agencies, Health, Social Services, LAs and mainstream or special schools as necessary.
  • Ensure that the school is working within government and school guidelines by maintaining regular contacts with other schools, advisory staff etc., to keep the school informed of new teaching developments/approaches being adopted elsewhere.
  • Ensure that staff colleagues maintain effective record keeping systems and that they are kept up to date and under review.
  • Maintain professionalism and high personal standards within the context of teaching and learning
