Advert

The Brook Learning Trust is a small but expanding Multi Academy Trust, with responsibility for three Secondary schools in Kent. Due to retirement, we are seeking to appoint a Clerk to provide regulatory guidance and effective administrative support to the governance functions of the Trust.

Based at our Brook Learning Trust offices at the High Weald Academy in Cranbrook, Kent, the role attracts excellent employee benefits including reduced gym membership, employee assistance programme, free on-site parking, and membership of the local government pension scheme. There is also opportunity for ongoing personal development through the undertaking of appropriate and regular training to maintain and improve knowledge and practice.

There are three key functions of the role; to provide effective administrative support to the Trust Board and its committees; to ensure the Trust Board is properly constituted; and to manage information effectively in accordance with legal requirements. The role requires 37 hours per week, term-time only plus 3 weeks, however we require our successful candidate to be flexible, since Trust meetings will be a mixture of daytime and evening start times. In return we can discuss flexible working with the successful candidate.  A calendar of meetings is published in advance and is available on request to prospective candidates. The Clerk will be able to claim TOIL for time worked outside of their contractual hours.

What are we looking for in a candidate?

The Brook Learning Trust and its academies adhere to the seven Nolan Principles, which are the basis of ethical standards for those working in a public office.  The successful candidate must therefore demonstrate the highest professional standards.  Honesty, integrity, objectivity and accountability are key to this pivotal role. You must be highly organised, and first-rate minute taking skills and experience of clerking are essential. Candidates should also be comfortable in dealing with a range of stakeholders including central and local government officials, governors, parents and groups within the local community.
