Communication Support Worker (BSL) - Full-time - Special Needs Position

To facilitate the education, care and social development of a profoundly deaf pupil with multiple and complex needs within a mainstream school. A dedicated, enthusiastic BSL signer (level 2 or above) to work with a young child (year 3). Main duties and responsibilities:

To apply additional communication methods, suitable for the needs and preferences of the child

To enable access to information and facilitate two way communication

To modify and adapt language and curriculum content

To assist in the implementation of the EHC plan designed for the profoundly deaf pupil and help monitor progress

To contribute towards record keeping and planning

To work in partnership with parents/carers

To attend review meetings and any training where appropriate

To work with other children as directed by the class teacher

To undertake other duties as directed by the headteacher

To undertake training in both tracheostomy suctioning and changing, and feeding via a tube (if not already able to do so) and carry out these procedures to ensure the needs of the child are met

To be an excellent team player

Information about the school

Ash, Cartwright and Kelsey is a CE Aided Primary School set in the heart of the rural village of Ash. We have easy access to Canterbury, Thanet and Sandwich. We currently have seven classes including an EYFS unit which also offers childcare provision. We offer well established Breakfast and After School child care and a strong set of extra-curricular after school clubs.
