We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our team at Upton Junior School. You should be a positive and enthusiastic person who loves working with children and helping them to strive for their best.

Whilst experience is not necessary you must have a minimum 'C' grade in English and maths. Your numeracy and literacy will be of a high enough standard to improve standards. You will be able to communicate effectively with children and adults, have a flexible attitude, good sense of humour and be friendly and approachable. Good time management and the ability to work on your own initiative are essential.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting groups of children in achieving the lesson objective in literacy and maths and across all areas of the curriculum.
  • Leading groups of children or 1:1 intervention programmes.
  • Feeding back to the class teacher, sometimes keeping records of progress and behaviour.
  • Working with the Year Group to support any social, emotional, behavioural or medical needs.

Above all you need to like children, to want the very best for them and be prepared to put their needs first: children will be at the heart of your work. You must be able to demonstrate that you understand the importance of educating the whole child within a creative and innovative school setting.

This role will be on a temporary basis.  You will be working for 15 hours per week, term time only. Pay: Kent Range 3, £17,365 - £17,411 pro rata. The working pattern will be Monday - Friday, 9.00am - 12.15pm, with a 15 minute break.

All applications will be considered and all relevant training will be given to the right candidate.

If you are interested in this position, please complete the application form on this site. Whilst not essential, visits to our school are encouraged, so please telephone us if you would like to arrange one.

Upton Junior School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including reference checks with previous employers and an enhanced DBS check.
