Part time (roughly 0.6 FTE i.e. 6 days over 2 weeks), permanent contract, September 2019 start, MPR/UPR

Manwood’s is a great place to teach – it is a friendly, dynamic school where both staff and students thrive because they are highly valued. Our students are bright, able and eager to learn, and due to our environment of excellent behaviour, teachers are able to teach their subjects to a high level.  Sandwich is situated in a beautiful area of Kent, close to both coast and rolling countryside. It is also close to the channel crossings at Dover and Ashford and has very good connections to London via the High Speed rail route to Kings Cross and the A2/M2 by car. Local house prices and rents are considerably lower than those in London and the Home Counties.

We are looking for an exceptional teacher with a creative and inspirational approach. As a well-qualified graduate with the ability to teach from Year 7 to A Level, you will enable all pupils to reach their potential. Applications are welcome from experienced teachers and NQTs alike as this highly experienced team contains a wealth of expertise in it which makes the post particularly attractive for a colleague at the start of their career, whilst more experienced colleagues will be attracted by the fact they can teach to Further Mathematics and Oxbridge standard.

Within the school the Mathematics Department is well respected and the students enjoy their lessons and make very good progress. Teachers have high expectations and place an emphasis on laying good mathematical understanding. Typically, around 40% of the Sixth Form choose to study Maths at A level.

Manwood’s is a mixed grammar school that was graded Outstanding in all categories by Ofsted in April 2012 for its day school and Outstanding in all categories in January 2017 for its boarding operation as well.

Information about the school

Sir Roger Manwood’s School is a mixed grammar school for students aged 11-18. The school was granted Academy status on 1 March 2011. We have 1007 students in total, 260 in the Sixth Form and 55 boarders. In September 2014, the school began an expansion from being a 4 form entry to a 5 form entry. The school is set in particularly attractive grounds and has excellent facilities.

The school was inspected by OfSTED in April 2012. The inspectors judged the school to be outstanding in every respect. In the achievement of the pupils, in the quality of the teaching, in the behaviour and safety of the pupils, in leadership and management and in the overall effectiveness of the school the judgements of the Inspection team were in every case the top grade.

Academic results are consistently of a very high standard. As a result we appear prominently in the national league tables. The vast majority of our Sixth Formers go on to the most competitive universities including Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, Kings and Warwick. The extra-curricular life of the school is a very striking feature of life at Manwood’s.

There is an exceptionally wide range of sporting and cultural activities which all attract high levels of participation. There are also imaginative international ties, including those with schools in Germany, China, the Gambia and India.

The school has a warm, friendly atmosphere. The care, guidance and support offered is outstanding and is much appreciated by students and parents alike. The mixed nature of the school and its boarding element help to create a family ethos which helps to make the school as successful as it is.
