Required for Term 5 2019 – a teaching assistant to join our friendly, supportive and highly successful school. This is a temporary position, linked to High Needs Funding, at 27.5 hours per week.

We are looking for a skilled and experienced individual to work 1:1 with a child in KS2. We are looking for someone who is flexible in order to fill this unique role; experience of working with children with special educational needs will be advantageous. The successful candidate needs to show enthusiasm for the role, as well as being patient and prove they have the skills to help this child to feel comfortable at school, as well as enabling them to fulfil their potential. We require someone who works well within a team and who can use their initiative to help support individual needs. Initially you will be supporting the child at an alternative setting for part of the week, and managing their reintegration.

It is important that any applicants have the required experience and skills that we are looking for.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have some knowledge or experience working with children and young people with SEND and strong behaviour management.
  • Have the energy and enthusiasm to provide personalised learning experiences to children with SEND.
  • Have a calm, patient and encouraging manner, with an ability to make learning fun.
  • An ability to be self-motivated and manage time effectively in order to maximise children’s learning time.
  • Flexible and willing to support the child in a variety of situations, possibly including on the playground at lunch time.

It is essential that the applicant has good literacy/numeracy skills and should preferably hold a teaching assistant qualification.

Information about the school

Colliers Green Primary School is a highly successful Voluntary Aided Church of England School in an idyllic rural setting, surrounded by fields and woodlands. There are 112 pupils on the roll and the school is regularly over-subscribed.

Colliers Green has benefitted from a new building which opened in 2019. We now have four bright, modern and well-equipped classrooms and a dedicated library and SEN space. There is a separate building and brand new playground for our reception children and we have retained the old school house and Victorian school hall. We are proud of this fantastic new learning environment.

The school’s core values of Community, Aspiration and Resilience underpin our whole approach to learning. As a small school, our children learn to play together and support and respect each other across different age groups. They are outgoing, polite and confident and we routinely receive positive feedback on their excellent behaviour.

We have very active and talented teaching and support staff teams. All of our staff know all of our children well, and each child is valued and nurtured. Colliers Green parents are passionate about the school and are highly engaged and active in their support.

The rural nature of the school is important to its identity – we have an orchard, vegetable garden and pond, and all children take part in regular Forest School lessons.

Since 1907 our vibrant, successful and unique little school has provided warm, happy memories for generations of Kent’s children, parents and their teachers.
