TEACHER OF GEOGRAPHY

We are looking to appoint a highly motivated teacher of Geography to join our Humanities Faculty which is committed to raising standards and expectations.

This is a unique opportunity to be involved in and help shape our Academy, at an exciting stage in its development. The post reflects the continued expansion of the Academy and offers significant scope for professional and career development as the Academy continues to grow in size.

They will have the capacity to help us establish a vibrant learning environment, and a culture of enthusiasm for learning. Geography is offered to all students at Key Stage Three (Year 7 – 8) and as a popular option subject at Key Stage Four (Year 9 -11) we are currently teaching from the Edexcel GCSE specification which develops students understanding of physical and human geographical issues. There are plans to develop IB Geography as part of the Sixth Form expansion. Geography lessons are taught as part of the Humanities curriculum which is housed in its own wing of the Academy. Senior House (Years 9-13) students are taught within this environment. Year 7 & 8 students (Junior House) are taught in Junior House, a separate area for all Junior House teaching. Geography plays an integral role in the delivery of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (Years 7-11) which puts developing the student as a global citizen in an ever changing world at the Heart of learning

The Position

Working with the Humanities Faculty, which includes Geography, History, Global Philosophy and Ethics, Religious studies, the post of Teacher of Geography is permanent and full-time. As part of this role, the successful candidate will be involved in shaping the Geography Curriculum across all Key Stages as well as planning and organising fieldwork trips.

The Trust comprises of Skinners’ Kent Academy and Skinners’ Kent Primary School.

The Academy opened on September 1st 2009. It is an independent, non fee-paying, mixed, all ability school, funded by the DfE and supported fully by its lead sponsor The Skinners’ School, a grammar school for boys and the Skinners’ Company. The Skinners’ Kent Academy Trust is founded on the principles of a culture of high standards and high aspirations, a culture of active participation, an emotionally rich learning environment and an inclusive environment where every child is known and every learner supported.

The main aim of the Academy Trust is to provide the highest quality of education for students, from Reception to Year 11 and the Sixth Form. The Academy Trust aims to raise and reflect aspirations within the local community and provide education, social and economic benefits for all.
