We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our team as soon as possible. You will need to be a positive and enthusiastic person who loves working with children and helping them to achieve their full potential.

The successful candidate will join an Ofsted rated good school with a skilled and friendly teaching team. We can offer you opportunities for professional development, children who respond to passionate teaching and supportive colleagues, governors and parents.

You will have a minimum 'C' grade in English and maths (or equivalent) or be able to demonstrate that your maths and English will be of a high enough standard to support and extend children throughout the primary age range.  You will also be able to model good spoken English.

You will be calm and caring and able to communicate effectively with children and adults. Good time management and the ability to work on your own initiative are essential.

You will work in close partnership with the class teacher, supporting groups of children in class and running interventions, currently in an Upper Key Stage 2 classroom.

This school is committed to safe-guarding and promoting the well-being of all children. The post is subject to enhanced Criminal Records Bureau disclosure and references.

We welcome visits to the school for a tour so you can get a feel for the school before applying for a position. You can contact the office to book a appointment.

Information about the school

Petham Primary School is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, within the peaceful village of Petham, situated a few miles south of historic Canterbury. The school, which has approximately 110 pupils on roll, is organised into 4 mixed-age classes from Early Years to Y6. We have excellent facilities both indoors and outside and were awarded ‘Good’ at our last Ofsted inspection in July 2019. The school’s outdoor space and location lends itself to support the development of a curriculum which has outdoor learning at its heart and the potential for an enriched Forest School to be established. The school works closely with families and has strong links with the local community, has a thriving PTA and an experienced staff team. Children at Petham are motivated, happy and have a thirst for learning.

We are part of a newly merged Trust of 10 schools - Our Community Multi-Academy Trust (OCMAT). Being part of the Trust provides excellent opportunities for professional development, networking and sharing of best practice. OCMAT is also a member of the Kent MAT Alliance (KMA). The KMA is a group of 9 Multi-Academy Trusts with 38 primary schools across the county. We are a like-minded collective group who strongly believe we are better together; working collaboratively to improve the educational outcomes of all the children in our care. As part of this we have access to a wealth of CPD and networking events.

Our school and all its personnel are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children. This post is subject to 2x references and an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service. We will also seek references before interview.
