Advert

Archbishop Courtenay Primary School is looking to appoint a Teaching Assistant to support a pupil on a 1:1 basis who is in receipt of High Needs Funding.  The position is on a temporary contract in the first instance and will start in January 2019. Please read the Person Specification and Job Description carefully and make reference to them in your application.

We are seeking someone who is positive in their outlook, flexible in their approach and a good team player.  Experience of supporting individual children would be an advantage but not essential.

You will be working alongside the Class Teacher, fully supported by our SENCo.  The post is for 5 days per week, 6.5 hours per day (08.30 a.m. - 3.30 p.m. including lunch) term time only.

The ideal candidate will be able to:

  • Establish good behaviour for learning.
  • Aid the pupil to learn as effectively as possible both in a group situation and independently by being pro-active and working on your own initiative.
  • Motivate and encourage the pupil(s) as required by providing levels of individual attention, reassurance and help with learning tasks as appropriate to pupils' needs, developing the child's resilience and self-esteem.
  • Use praise, commentary and assistance to encourage the pupil to concentrate and stay on task - taking into account the need for 'movement breaks'.
  • Liaise with the Class Teacher, SENCo and other professionals about individual provision, contributing to the planning and delivery as appropriate.
  • Provide additional nurture to individuals when requested by the Class Teacher and SENCo.
  • Consistently and effectively implement agreed behaviour management strategies.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Good knowledge of behaviour management strategies.
  • High expectations of themselves and our children.
  • Good communication skills with an ability to record and report on children's progress.

Visits to the school, prior to an invitation for interview, to meet with Miss Robinson our Head Teacher are most welcome.
