A one year fixed term, term time Teaching Assistant is required for 2019. The post is for 30.75 hours per week (including 2 hour meetings on alternate Thursdays) 39 weeks per year (Term time plus 5 days INSET).

As our school changes, flexibility in the school’s organisation will need to be maintained. Candidates should therefore be aware that this post is an appointment to the school as a whole, and they may be based at one of our off site inclusion classes and not necessarily fixed to a specific department.

Whilst previous experience of working in a special school is not essential, knowledge and experience of the issues faced by children with special educational needs or disabilities will be a distinct advantage. Due to the high level of need of some pupils, responsibilities will include intimate personal care, feeding pupils where necessary (including by gastric tube with relevant training) and administration of medication (subject to training).

Ideally candidates will already hold or be studying towards a relevant qualification such as Supporting Teaching and Learning or Support Work in Schools (eg; CACHE; NVQ in Supporting Teaching and Learning). Candidates must be able to demonstrate competency linked to National Occupational Standards, and must be qualified to at least GCSE Grade C or above in both English and Maths or equivalent Level 2 Qualification. so as to undertake essential record keeping.
