We wish to appoint an excellent and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team in January 2019. We are looking for a TA with flexibility, experience in learning support and the ability to contribute to our school’s community and vision. The successful applicant will be sensitive to children’s varying needs, but be able to work under the guidance of the teaching team, Inclusion Manager and Leadership Team.
Applicants should preferably be qualified to NVQ 2, and have some knowledge of the development and learning styles of children and special educational needs. A knowledge of and experience of techniques and resources for working with pupils with speech and language needs and ASD would be preferable. Experience of working in a reception class or nursery setting would be an advantage.
The post will be for 27.5 hours a week. It will include a wide range of duties and responsibilities.
Applicants successful with their on-line application will be invited for interview, which will also involve an observation of candidates working with a small group of children, as well as a basic literacy and numeracy skills test.
Candidates will be judged on both their capability for the post and their suitability for working with children. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. It is also committed to ensuring that all staff employed at the school has obtained satisfactory Disclosure Barring Service clearance.
A school was first established in the village of Horton Kirby in 1857 and the present school, which combined the village schools of Horton Kirby and South Darenth, was opened by the Bishop of Tonbridge in 1970. The building consists of eleven classrooms. Adjacent to these are libraries, resource and play areas. The school hall is used for dining, assemblies, gymnastics and games. The roll is currently 284, organised into 11 classes.
The school has developed close links with the community and the Church. Parents are always welcomed into the school and many work alongside the professional staff supporting reading, maths skills, computing, cooking, etc.
We aim to provide a caring, stimulating, well disciplined atmosphere at the school. To this end staff work co-operatively and professionally together to provide for our pupils. As of February 2015, the school has been graded GOOD in all areas by OFSTED. This has been followed up with a GOOD in our SIAMs (Church) inspection March 2016.
