The role of School Business Manager has never been more important. As schools rise to the challenge of restricted budgets and an environment where both recruitment and retention of staff are evermore crucial, we are looking to recruit an exceptional professional to manage all aspects of the financial and business services at the school.  The successful applicant will manage the school’s finances, personnel, contracts and premises, including health and safety processes and procedures. They will be required to offer comprehensive and strategic support to the Headteacher and leadership team.  The role requires flexibility, tact and problem solving on a daily basis.

During our shortlisting process we will be focussing on:

  • relevant qualifications and business acumen
  • financial and administrative background, with experience of financial management
  • evidence of management of a diverse team
  • ability to work under pressure and be able to meet deadlines
  • high standards to do a good job at all times

Above all during our recruitment exercises we will look for the demonstration of:

  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • ethical values that show a strong commitment to inclusivity and the ethos of the school
  • flexibility and a ‘can do’ attitude

Therefore it is essential that the applicants are professional, approachable and effective communicators.

Previous experience of working as a School Business Manager is not essential.  We are seeking, first and foremost, someone with excellent organisational skills and a genuine commitment to helping us deploy the resources available to best possible effect. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and proactively. Appropriate professional development and training will be available to address any skills gaps in the successful candidate. In a time of austerity, we would like to explore any candidate's ability to develop income generating activities including preparation of and submission of bids for funding to external agencies.

Applicants are welcome to make an appointment to visit the school prior to submitting their application. If you wish to make an appointment, please email the school office (office@ladyj.kent.sch.uk)

Lady Joanna Thornhill Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  Successful applicants will be subject to enhanced DBS clearance.

The closing date for applications is 9.00am on Friday 28th September 2018 with interviews expected to take place for short-listed candidates on Wednesday 10th October 2018.

Information about the school

Lady Joanna is a two-form entry endowed primary school, in the centre of the idyllic village of Wye. It is set in amazing grounds and the outside area is being further developed into a really special and exciting space for the children.

At Lady Joanna, we aim to provide a stable, caring, learning environment in which children are happy to attend, are stimulated, keen to learn and flourish. We provide for a wide range of ability and are committed to providing equal opportunities and extra support to those who are vulnerable or have special needs. Our curriculum is for the Head, Heart and Hand and this means we want to provide an expansive education.

Lady Joanna is a UNICEF Rights Respecting School, which empowers the children to learn more about their rights and how they work in practice. The school also supports children to become courageous advocates through the School Council and we are proud of our environment and promote environmental issues.

Lady Joanna is a member of CARE Foundation Trust which is a group of 10 local primary schools. This provides support and shared learning opportunities across the trust.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our students. Lady Joanna Thornhill will carry out an online search as part of their due diligence on any shortlisted candidates. This may help identify any incidents or issues that have happened, and are publicly available online, which we might want to explore with an applicant at interview. This information will be kept on file for 6 months, in line with data protection procedures. The panel will ensure we meet our duty under the Equality Act, 2010.

We particularly welcome applications from applicants from ethnic minority groups, as they are under-represented within our school workforce.

The School reserves the right to close applications, should we find a suitable applicant prior to the closing date being met, it is therefore advised that applications are submitted as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. We will also consider part time applications. Please indicate as part of your written application whether you would like to work part time.
