Advert

Due to the entry of a new Reception pupil with additional needs, we are looking for an enthusiastic, skilled and reliable teaching assistant to work as part of our TA team.

As well as aiding the pupil to become a more independent learner, this role will require supporting with toileting, developing motor skills and improving social & communication interactions.

The successful applicant will have a good standard of spoken English, with English and Maths qualifications to at least a GCSE 'C' grade. This role is for 38 weeks a year, working from 8.45am to 3.15pm five days a week and will be temporary until the end of the school year in the first instance, due to the funding used to support the pupil being provided on an annual basis.

Experience in a TA role is not essential, it is more important that you can show you can build a successful relationship with a vulnerable pupil and parents as well as show an ability to learn quickly.

Our teaching assistants are accountable to the class teacher and SENCO, sharing the responsibility for raising standards and equipping the children with the skills and dispositions to be successful in life.

Our fantastic pupils and positive, committed staff will ensure that you are welcomed into our team of reflective professionals. We are looking for someone who identifies with our ethos – this is not ‘just a job’. If you like the sound of the challenging but hugely rewarding circumstances in which we work, we would love to hear from you.

The School and all its personnel are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children. At interview your motivation for working with children will be explored as well as aspects from your application form. The selection process will also consist of activities including working with some of our pupils. Appointment to this post will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Please apply online through the Kent Teach website, detailing, in your ‘reason for application’, how you fit the person specification. If you are shortlisted, you will be informed by telephone and follow-up e-mail soon after the closing date. Visits to the school by the candidates will be welcomed.

Information about the school

Bysing Wood is a friendly Primary School located on the western outskirts of Faversham. The school is growing in popularity, building on a successful Ofsted and the fantastic range of facilities offered alongside a great atmosphere. Currently the school has 240 children on roll, organised into 10 classes from Reception to Year 6. A building project to become 2 form entry over the next few years has been completed and provides the base for our Key Stage 2 classes. September 2018 saw the start of a Forest School provision on site and we opened a pre-school in January 2020, catering for 2,3 and 4 year olds. In March 2020, we were a founder member of EKC Schools Trust, which provides access to the EKC Group colleges' resources to further enrich our curriculum. At Bysing Wood Primary School we value each child as an individual and encourage them to achieve their personal best in a happy, secure, stimulating environment. The displays in school are a major strength and help evidence the rich, relevant, termly topic-based curriculum (with associated visitors and trips) on offer. Our staff are committed to developing the whole child, encouraging learning through knowledge, skills and practical activities. We also support them to become tolerant, respectful and caring individuals who enjoy their work and play and are proud of their achievements. The proportion of pupils eligible for free school meals is high, pointing to the social and economic challenges facing a proportion of our families, although the profile is changing over time as the housing developments in Faversham come on stream.
