Required for November 2018

This is reflected in our approach to teaching and learning and as a teacher of R.E .the successful candidate will be central to continuing to instil this ethos in our students.

Our curriculum:

Sociology is only taught at A Level and we follow the AQA specifications. Students regularly choose to continue their Sociology studies at Russell Group and top-20 universities, so excellent subject knowledge and the ability to teach beyond the specification is required.

For AQA, the topics covered are:

  • Unit 1 (Education with Theory and Methods): Education; Methods in Context; Theory and Methods
  • Unit 2 (Topics in Sociology): Families and Households; Global Development
  • Unit 3 (Crime and Deviance with Theory and Methods): Crime and Deviance; Theory and Methods
  •

In RE, KS3 programmes of study meet the requirements of the local authority Religious Education agreed syllabus; investigating religions and worldviews to ensure students can identify different beliefs and practices in relation to contemporary moral issues. In so doing, the department supports the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of students in lessons and additional activities which encourage reflection, debate and independent learning.

In KS4, all students study General RE on a fortnightly basis, with GCSE being an option available to all students.

In General RE students evaluate contradictions within arguments for and against different philosophical and moral issues, developing their skills in oral presentations and debate and enabling them to be intellectually prepared for an A level course, should they wish to do so.

Academic standards in the school are very high and students studying RS to examinations regularly secure results which are better than results in other subjects.
