Having set up a PE department to implement a wide ranging and specialised PE program across the school, we are now seeking to appoint a highly skilled and enthusiastic PE and School Sport Specialist to help us improve our sporting provision.

We understand how important PE, School Sport and Physical Activity is for our pupils, both in terms of physical development and the life lessons that it provides and the right candidate will have the subject knowledge and dedication that it takes to inspire and enthuse our pupils.

This role will primarily involve teaching PE lessons across our primary school as well as coaching before and after school sports clubs. Delivering a range of active play options during playtimes and lunchtimes will also be required.

The PE subject leader and the SLT will support you in your role. An additional staff member is needed to help build on the huge potential for sporting success that there is at Garlinge Primary School and Nursery. We have recently become the first and only school in Kent to receive the Kent Active Infants Award from Kent Sport and we are also a School Games Gold Mark school. Both these awards reflect our high quality PE and School Sport provision. Our recent PasSport award for the ‘Most Improved School’ in Thanet for the delivery of PE and School Sport is a further testament to our provision.

The post is for 30 hours per week (Monday to Friday) and term time only. Flexibility will be required as some sporting fixtures and events may fall outside these core working hours, and will be paid as overtime. The pay scale is Kent Range 6 at £19,864 for a full-time position, which equates to approximately £13,318 pro rata per annum for this role.

We require a good standard of general education and GCSE qualifications or equivalent in English and Mathematics at Grade C or above. A Level 2 qualification in at least one sport is also essential. Verification of qualifications will be required before employment can commence.

A formal interview will take place with a panel comprising of the Headteacher and the PE Subject Leader and will last approximately thirty minutes. Candidates will also be expected to provide a thirty minute PE activity to a mixed ability Year 5 group.

Garlinge Primary School and Nursery is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Visits to the school are encouraged and we are holding the following tours:

Monday 10 September 9.45am

Wednesday 12 September 9.45am

Monday 17 September 14.00pm

Wednesday 26 September 9.45am

Please contact the school office on 01843 221877 to arrange an appointment.

This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service and check against the ISA Barred List for children.

If applicants have not been contacted by Friday 12 October they have been unsuccessful on this occasion.
