Are you self-motivated and highly organised with a good range of practical skills? If so, then read on as this may be the perfect role for you…

Upton Junior School is looking to appoint an Assistant Caretaker to join our Premises Team. There are lots of special reasons for becoming part of ‘Team Upton’. We are a fabulous, caring school community that puts our ‘One Childhood,  One Chance’ philosophy at the centre of everything we do.

Above all you need to like children, to want the very best for them and be prepared to put their needs first; children will be at the heart of your work. You must be able to demonstrate that you understand the importance of educating the whole child within a creative and innovative school setting. We want our ‘Uptonians’ to have an amazing environment, inside and out and this is something you need to help us achieve.

It’s all about making sure we're safe and secure, with everything working correctly and efficiently as well as keeping the school looking smart. Duties will include daily cleaning responsibilities; general maintenance of the school premises; out of hours opening for lettings; ensuring the security of the school, regular health and safety checks and general janitorial duties.

The successful candidate will take pride in ensuring the school is clean, tidy and a safe environment for our children and staff. You will need to be competent at DIY tasks and be able to work both on your own initiative and under the guidance of others.

We have a minibus that is in constant use and although not essential, it would be very useful to have category D1 on your licence as well as some experience of driving minibuses.

The post is for 25 hours a week, on a shift basis 1.30-6.30pm, although there is some flexibility available for the right candidate.

The contract is for 52 weeks a year and pay will be on Kent Range 2 £14,856-£15,252 (pro rata).

If you're keen and are confident you can meet the challenge, then please get in touch - visits are strongly encouraged and we hope to have the successful person in place for the beginning of September. Please contact Stephen Denny: stephen.denny@uptonjunior.com or by telephone via the school office on 01843 861393.

The Viking Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure application to the Criminal Records Bureau and check against the ISA-barred list for children.
