Come and be part of our school!

Ashford St Mary’s CEP School is a friendly and welcoming community where everyone works together and learns together with a determination to succeed.

Our well behaved and motivated pupils are eager to learn through engaging and creative lessons which (in the words of the children) “teachers make really fun”. Our cross-curricular approach to learning through exciting topics, such as Dinosaur Planet, Scrumdiddlyumptious and Fallen Fields, motivates the children to become enthusiastic and independent learners. Children particularly enjoy opportunities to share their learning with their peers, pupils in other year groups and with their parents through our end-of-unit celebration events.

We are looking for someone to teach our children in KS2 French, as although we have tried, we do not feel we are doing it very well!  We want our children to be well prepared and ready to learn languages at the next stage of their education, and feel we need an expert to develop this love of language.

The successful candidate will be working with 15 children at a time, and will have responsibility for developing a successive MFL programme across the school.

This a part time position, for 9 hours a week, there is some flexibility around the hours.  The position is for the academic year 2018-9 in the first instance.

We are open to applications from Language Assistants or Unqualified Teachers, if you are the right person for our school.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has high expectations of all pupils,
  • Understands and has experience of teaching MFL to children of primary school age.
  • Is able to creatively plan, deliver and evaluate a progressive programme from years 3-6
  • Uses assessment to inform teaching
  • Inspires and motivates children to do their best in everything they do
  • Is a good/ outstanding classroom teacher
  • Is able to work effectively within a team
  • Is committed to their own CPD with an interest in how this impacts on raising standards
  • Is a good communicator with a sense of humour
  • Is willing to uphold the Christian ethos of the school.

If you are our succesful candidate, you will receive excellent support and nurture from our professional team, and will play a significant part in preparing our children for the next step in their education.

We welcome and encourage informal visits to our school - please contact the school office to make an appointment.

Information about the school

Ashford St Mary Church of England Primary School is a two form entry school situated in the centre of Ashford.

We have a spacious and attractive site where things come in twos just like Noah’s ark – two classes per year group, two halls, two libraries, two playgrounds. Each of our year groups also has a shared space which provides an additional area for learning opportunities.

Our staff are a dedicated and hardworking team but we believe in having fun together too. The supportive staff work together to achieve the same goal and ensure that each child is given the best possible chance to grow and develop into well-rounded individuals.

Ashford St Mary’s CEP School is a town centre school located in a rapidly growing town with good transport links across Kent, to London and to France. We are part of Central Ashford Town Schools collaborations (CATS) and benefit from shared professional development opportunities and sharing of good practice amongst schools in a similar catchment.

Our Christian values of trust, respect, friendship, compassion, perseverance and forgiveness were chosen by the staff, pupils and parents and underpin everything we do. We have close links with St Mary’s church and the children benefit from visiting the church for services throughout the year and from the clergy leading worship at school.

We are well resourced with ample outdoor space. Our creative curriculum offers lots of opportunities for active, hands-on learning and our children speak with pride and enthusiasm about their learning. Pupils come from a wide range of backgrounds. There is an independent nursery attached to the school as well as a breakfast and after school club. The school buildings are modern and well resourced.

Pupils and staff are extremely proud to be part of Ashford St Mary’s School.
