Information about the school

The Area

Dulverton School is located in New Eltham, on the extreme southwest edge of the London Borough of Bexley. The surrounding area consists mainly of owner-occupier housing containing families of mixed social circumstances and financial means. Children are drawn from a wide catchment area including New Eltham, Sidcup, Blackfen and the borders of Greenwich and Bromley.

The School

Dulverton School was opened in 1970 and has been extended three times in response to the requirements of the local area and the school’s need to meet these. It serves a mixed community of private and council home dwellers. The building is set within spacious grounds with ample hard playground areas and two large well maintained playing fields. There are fourteen primary classrooms, an adjacent nursery unit and a well-stocked, furnished library in the main building, together with a mobile room (music/cooking etc.), a separate two storey building with a mirrored studio and multi-purpose rooms for whole class or group activities/interventions and a separate single storey outdoor learning centre which is also used for a Breakfast Club and an After School Club. Each classroom is large with a pleasing outlook onto the playground and fields and all offer plenty of scope for display and individuality.

The school’s philosophy is based on the belief that education is a partnership between home and school where parents/guardians are encouraged to become involved in their children’s learning. We welcome parents/guardians to participate actively in school life, and as a result many of them now come into school to help with such activities as reading, art, drama, cooking, sport, visits, display etc.

There is an active Friends of Dulverton Association which provides social and fund-raising activities, the proceeds of which are used to enhance the school’s resources and thus benefit all our children.

Our ultimate aim at Dulverton School is to ensure that children will develop into mature and responsible adults. We have high expectations of the children and the high standards of work and behaviour reflect this.

The Governors are justly proud of Dulverton School and fully support the hard working and professional teaching and non-teaching team who together have built the reputation that the school enjoys.

The successful candidate will be joining an extremely friendly and hardworking staff who are totally committed to teamwork and co-operation and who support the principles and philosophy of Dulverton School. Year groups plan together to provide mutual support and share expertise; the whole staff team collaborates to formulate and discuss policy.

The Roll

The school has become extremely popular and successful, which is reflected in the ever-increasing number of applications for admissions. Two Reception classes are admitted each year. The current school roll is 447, including 26 part-time nursery places. The achievements of all pupils are strongly celebrated and a high priority is placed on the spiritual, moral, social and cultural education of the children.

The Staff

In addition to the Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher and Assistant Head Teacher there are currently sixteen teachers, fifteen Teaching Assistants, three Nursery Nurses, thirteen Midday Supervisors, two (job-share) Senior Midday Supervisors, three office staff, three Breakfast Club staff, four After School Club staff, three kitchen staff, one Premises Manager and four cleaners on a regular basis. The Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher and Assistant Head Teacher together with the EYFS leader form the Leadership Team within the school.

An outline Job Description is attached. Job Descriptions are reviewed on an annual basis, depending on each staff member’s knowledge and experience and the prominence of each curriculum area in the School Development / Improvement Plan. Linked professional development needs and opportunities will be addressed at the same annual meeting and through on-going appraisal structures.

We look forward to receiving your application.
