The Acorn Speech & Language Centre is part of Minterne Junior and The Oaks Infant School and it has achieved very good Ofsted reports. The Centre provides specialist provision for up to forty-three children with Education and Health Care plans for speech and language disorders. There are three classes; EYFS/Infants, Lower Juniors and Upper Juniors. Each class has a specialist class teacher who is supported by three to four Teaching Assistants. The post is for 25 hours per week, term time only. If you are successful you would be joining a dedicated, friendly and highly effective team. Due to the nature of the position it is essential that you have a good level of spoken and written language skills. Makaton signing, knowledge of cued-articulation and colour shape coding would be advantageous but a willingness to learn is essential. Flexibility and a sense of humour is a must!

Information about the schools: Minterne Community School and The Oaks Infant School can be found on the southern outskirts of Sittingbourne, Kent. Both schools are a large three-form entry schools. Attached to the school is the Acorn Speech & Language Centre. We currently have 25 junior children and 12 infant children in this specialist unit who integrate into the main school for some learning experiences and activities. We have a very active FOM who raise funds for additional items for the schools. The governing body are knowledgeable and supportive of the school staff and children. The schools are set in attractive grounds with many mature trees which attract an abundance of wildlife.

Minterne Community Junior School and The Oaks Infant School are part of the Potential in Everyone Academy Trust along with Bredgar Primary School and Borden Primary School.

Information about the school

Minterne is a large 3 form entry Junior School with an attached speech and language unit called The Acorn Centre. The school serves a pleasant residential area of the town. Facilities are excellent and include an ICT suite with 35 PCs. The school has a large, well-stocked library. We have also built a second hall.

The supportive staff work closely in Year Group Teams. Minterne was graded as Good by Ofsted in October 2021. The school is well known for Creativity, Sport and Music.

Minterne is part of Our Community Multi Academy Trust. The infant and junior schools share a specialist unit resource for children with speech and language difficulties.
