We are seeking to appoint a Teaching Assistant to support a child in The Acorn Centre through the use of British Sign Language. As this role involves the use of British Sign Language, this qualification is essential.

The Acorn Centre is a specially resourced provision which is part of both The Oaks Infant School and Minterne Junior School. The Acorn Centre has three classes with 12-15 pupils each whom are supported by a strong team of highly skilled adults.

The Oaks Infant School is a three form entry school on the edge of Sittingbourne and we pride ourselves in having an effective, supportive and collaborative staff team. Teaching Assistants at The Oaks need to be to be positive team players, providing support to both teachers and children.

The post is for 2.5 hours per day, working from 1pm to 3:30pm every afternoon. This position is to start immediately. It is a temporary position to support a named child and will be reviewed annually or sooner if the child should leave the provision. 

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS and references check.

The Oaks Infant School can be found on the southern outskirts of Sittingbourne, Kent. We are a three-form entry school with 9 classes for 270 children in years R, 1 and 2 plus a wonderful Nursery. Attached to the school is The Acorn Centre, a specially resourced provision who cater for children with an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) for Speech and Language Delays or Disorders. We have up to 12 children in this specialist unit who each have a bespoke program of integration into the main school.

We are proud to be part of Our Community Multi Academy Trust which enables us to work in partnership with our receiver school Minterne Junior School as well as Bredgar CEP School, Borden CEP School, Lydd Primary School, Selling CEP School, Milstead and Frinsted CEP School, Dymchurch Primary School, Petham Primary School and Lynsted and Norton Primary School.

We had a very positive Ofsted visit (November 2021) and the report can be found on our website. As Ofsted recognised, we pride ourselves on our kind, warm ethos and our strong team who are dedicated to providing the best possible educational experience for every child.

We are committed to Safeguarding and all appointments and visits will be made with safeguarding procedures as our key priority. All staff will be fully inducted, including Safeguarding training and will be subject to a full DBS check and collection of references before interview.

The school is set in attractive grounds with many mature trees which attract an abundance of wildlife. We are able to use the school grounds to take learning out into the environment providing an ambitious, broad and enriching experience for the children.
