Information about the school

Bligh Primary School forms part of the Maritime Academy Trust, a multi-academy trust that is committed to making sure that education is meaningful.

Our Trust is made up of 11 primary schools located in Greenwich, Bexley and Kent. Though our schools may be different with their own in-school culture and community spirit, they all work harmoniously and collaboratively together within a curriculum that ensures each and every child is being equipped with leadership and life skills. At Maritime, we do this by empowering schools to drive more meaningful and enjoyable outcomes for children by having great people working for us, who commit to working hard to make an impact whatever the school and whatever the role.

We are thriving two form entry school which has been selected by the DFE to ‘grow’ to a three form entry school due to its good and outstanding statuses. By 2023 Bligh Primary will be a full three form entry school.

Our key objective at Bligh Primary School is to equip all our children with the key skills of communication and collaboration as well as being community minded. We expect all our adults to provide the children with first hand experiences, knowledge and the necessary skills to articulate what they have learnt in a clear and informative way. This is developed through our clear teaching and learning focus on communication, community and collaboration.

Every child is recognised as a unique individual. We welcome and celebrate differences within our school community. The ability to learn is underpinned by our HEART values. Bligh is a school with HEART. Honesty, Empathy, Achievement, Resilience and Teamwork. We believe that these personal characteristics are essential in forming positive adult lives.

Our community is an essential part of the curriculum, which is why we chose to focus on using the surrounding local area to deepen the children’s understanding, making them experts of their locality throughout their learning journey.

Children leave Bligh with a sense of belonging, the ability to work independently, in pairs or as part of a team in collaboration. They can communicate effectively what they have learnt, gather a wealth of knowledge and skills through all areas of the curriculum. They have a clear understanding and knowledge of the community around them, their place within it and the opportunities it presents.

Maritime Academy Trust embraces diversity and equal opportunity in a serious way. We are committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives and skills. The more inclusive we are, the better our work will be.
