Are you looking for great temporary teaching post in a fantastic school? We might have just the job for you! One of our teachers has been blessed with an addition to her family. As with all maternity posts this means we aren’t able to say how long the vacancy will last, but it wouldn’t end any earlier than January 2019 with the potential of this being extended.

Preference will be given to experienced teachers who can quickly become part of our school family, but if you feel you are a great teacher, can quickly settle into a strong working team and put our children at the heart of all you do, then please pop in and speak to us about the role.

Information about the school

Being located in the High Street and close to the seafront means we can take pride in being right in the heart of Whitstable, access the excellent facilities to enrich our children’s learning and to have an important role in our local community.

We are truly an inclusive school and our intake reflects the diverse range of socio economic backgrounds and wide range of academic starting points. We strive for high standards to enable all children to attain their potential and our recent outcomes, especially for disadvantaged children recently have been impressive.

However, it is the ethos of our school that we believe is really special. Our Royal Native Citizenship Award honours children who have demonstrated good citizenship and upholding our values at home, school and the community. The recognition from these awards really do have a strong motivation for our children and we believe this is so important in their development. You can see why we have chosen the school values that we have.

We do work hard at maintaining high standards in key areas of the curriculum but we also place a very high value on other aspects of schooling including the wide range of opportunities through our focus on the arts, sport and the wider community. The Pupil Arts Council, set up in 2017 is especially influential in the way it ensures we have a calendar of arts and cultural activities throughout the school year and ensures every child’s creativity is encouraged and celebrated. Our playground mural is a great example – inspired by the ideas from our pupils and delivered by an artist parent very keen to support our school.

Given our size, type of school and the constraints of our site we are proud of the learning resources and facilities we can offer. All our classrooms have wi-fi and broadband internet access, interactive whiteboards and teacher laptops along with desktop PCs.

Our external play areas are all hard surface and we have a good all-weather pitch for sports activities, a timber trail, play equipment and a grassed environmental area/outdoor classroom with pond. We have a Game Zone in the playground to enable a range of activities that are led by our Play Leaders and Well-Being Team. There are also other areas to encourage a wider range of social and sporting activities.

More recently we have displayed some great images of our children demonstrating our school values around the school with our vision statement openly and proudly visible around the site.

We have a great team with everyone from staff to our strong PTA working towards our vision to be a school that is considered excellent by all the people and groups that have a part to play in helping us achieve our success. Supporting this great team with the leadership, passion and commitment to take WJS to the next level is the challenge for our new Headteacher
