An exciting opportunity has arisen for an outstanding Finance Officer to join our school to lead and oversee the financial and business aspects of the school. The job is for 20-25 hours per month, term time only; the day and hours of work are flexible.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee, develop and implement financial transactions and procedures within the school
  • Prepare the detailed annual Budget and 3 Year Plan including a review of staffing structure and salaries and present it to the Governing Body
  • Evaluate the financial implications of the School Plan and link it to the 3 Year Plan
  • Carry out the month end procedures including payroll, VAT and bank reconciliations
  • Monitor the budget and prepare monthly reports for the HT and Governing Body, explaining any variances and recommending any remedial action, in order to ensure effective control of income and expenditure
  • Perform regular health checks on the accounting system and perform the year end closedown and transfer of rollovers
  • Ensure that the school complies with all statutory requirements and financial controls including financial returns
  • Negotiate with and source alternative suppliers, to ensure the most efficient use of resources and value for money

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Financial experience of working in a Kent School
  • Knowledge of SIMS FMS6 and the Kent BPS Financial Planning Tool
  • Analytical skills for budget planning and variance analysis
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines is essential 
  • Reliability, integrity and will respect the confidentiality of matters relating to pupils, parents and staff
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people

Speldhurst Church of England Aided Primary School is in a village 3 miles from Tunbridge Wells in Kent and is at the heart of a thriving village community. We are a small, caring school with just 214 pupils so it is possible to know every child.
