Who we are looking for

Are you a qualified, experienced SEN teacher looking for a new challenge?

We are a leading outstanding residential school for children with Autism from the age of 5-19 years. Our school stands in the forefront in the education of children with Autism and is described as a Beacon of Excellence (OFSTED January 2017).

We are looking for a flexible, motivated and creative teacher to join our fantastic, well established multi-disciplinary team. You will have a proven track record of enabling children and young people to make good and outstanding progress over time, both academically and within interpersonal skills. You will have experience of leading a staff team and working collaboratively with a range of professionals including highly specialist speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and psychologists.  Working as part of the team you will ensure each student makes good progress and is well prepared for the best opportunities and experiences in later life by delivering high quality learning experiences.

When you step into our dynamic and innovative school it is immediately obvious how much staff care about every single student and that students enjoy being here.  Children and young people with autism can present challenging behaviours and you will need the confidence and resilience to deal with these. You will be committed to meeting all of our children and young people’s complex need, holding high expectations; this will involve careful planning, differentiation and often a creative and innovative approach.

If you have genuine passion and enthusiasm to join our dynamic team and don’t want to settle for second best - we want to hear from you.

You will need:

  • Experience of teaching in an SEN setting
  • To recognise, understand, and be able to develop excellent outcomes for AS pupils across the curriculum.
  • Experience of managing class teams
  • The ability to individualise curriculum needs for students

 What we can offer you

  • Excellent induction, training and development programme including Autism specific interventions and NAS conference opportunities
  • Reflective supervision, mentoring and coaching
  • 24 hour access to online training
  • Online staff discount scheme for a range of benefits(e.g. childcare voucher and cycle to work schemes)
  • Access to a 24 hour Employee Assistance counselling programme
  • Teachers Pension scheme
  • Career progression opportunities

Information about the school

Who we are:

The National Autistic Society is the UK’s leading charity for autistic people. Since 1962, we’ve been transforming lives, changing attitudes and helping to create a society that works for autistic adults and children.

We transform lives by providing support, guidance and practical advice for the 700,000 autistic adults and children in the UK, as well as their three million family members and carers. Autistic people turn to us at key moments or challenging times in their lives, be it getting a diagnosis, going to school or finding work.

We change attitudes by improving public understanding of autism and the difficulties many autistic people face. We also work closely with businesses, local authorities and government to help them provide more autism-friendly spaces, deliver better services and improve laws.

We have come a long way but it is not good enough. There is still so much to do to increase opportunities, reduce social isolation and build a brighter future for people on the spectrum. With your help, we can make it happen.
