STUDENT SUPPORT ASSISTANT – DAY OR NIGHT SUPPORT

Full Time or Part Time – Term Time Only – Permanent

Kent Scheme 3: £15,417 gross p.a. full time equivalent (£7.99 per hour) plus generous local government pension and 13 weeks holiday per year (5 weeks paid).

DAY SUPPORT:

Hours worked on a set shift pattern between 7am to 10pm - morning and evening shifts available.  This can be worked on a full time Term Time Only basis or full time term time Compressed Hours.

Full Time Term Time Only hours are 37 hours per week worked in school term time at £13,009 gross p.a.

Full Time Compressed hours 43 hours per week worked in school term time to include 8 Open Weekend shifts at £15,417 gross p.a.

NIGHT SUPPORT:

Full or Part Time Hours for 12 hours per shift. Set shift patterns are 7.30pm-7.30am or 8pm-8am Monday to Thursday.

For the 16 Open Weekends the school is open during term time the shifts are from 9pm-9am Friday to Sunday.

An unsocial hours enhancement of 1/3 hourly rate is paid between 10pm and 7am, therefore the total hourly rate with allowance is £10.65 for these hours.

Our Student Support Assistants are committed individuals that want to make a difference by being responsible for enabling students to learn, promoting their independence and helping them to achieve.

As a Student Support Assistant you will:

·   support students within the learning and/or residential environment in order to promote each student’s intellectual, physical, social, emotional and spiritual development;

·   promote a caring environment and provide a high standard of care including administering medicines, mealtime assistance, washing and toileting;

·   ensure that communication with students, staff and other departments is effective and contributes to securing efficiency and high standards of care and personal development for students;

·   maintain high standards of safety and observe good practice in relation to health and safety issues, implement students’ care plans and appropriately use the recording and reporting processes.

If working as a Waking Night Student Support Assistant you will support residential students during the night by attending to the student’s personal care and medical needs along with getting students ready for bed in the evening and for school in the morning.

The role will include a substantial amount of moving and handling. Experience of complex physical and medical needs is desirable, however an aspiration to enable students to learn and achieve meaningful independence is essential.

The successful candidate will be supported to complete the Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (if not already achieved) and GCSE (or equivalent) A*-C in English and Maths is desirable. Our school is unique within the maintained sector in the whole of southern England. We cater for students aged 4 to 19 and have both day and boarding places. We have a large site with high quality teaching, social care and health care facilities. A staff team of over 250 people provides specialist teaching, social care, therapies and nursing care to an exceptionally high standard.

Our overall aim is to enable every child and young person to achieve meaningful independence. Students flourish in a supportive but challenging environment, making good educational progress and achieving a range of accreditation as they get older. There is excellent support to enable students to achieve functional communication, mobility and skills for daily living.
