A rare and exciting job opportunity has arisen that will allow the right candidate to make a real difference to children's learning in a friendly, beautiful rural school where standards are high, behaviour is excellent and teaching is outstanding.

We require an accredited SENCo who is committed to supporting children with learning according to their needs. You will lead a small team of dedicated and highly experienced teaching assistants and work with both teachers and parents to ensure that our children make the best possible progress towards outcomes that will enhance their futures.

Our school is small and children typically achieve standards well in excess of national expectations, so our SEN register is not large. However, we seek a candidate who understands how children learn and who can help our teachers and TAs deliver the right support for their needs. We recognise that children with AEN may need to have their progress measured against different milestones and we need someone who can demonstrate an understanding of this fact.

The role is for FTE of 0.2 - the equivalent of 1 day per week - but we can be flexible with working patterns, to accommodate child care issues for example.

Visits to the school are warmly encouraged.

Information about the school

Bodsham School is set in the heart of the beautiful Kentish countryside and is Federated with Saltwood Church of England Primary school outside Hythe. There are 76 pupils on roll arranged in four classes. Year R are taught separately and there are mixed age classes from Year 1 to Year 6. The Christian ethos is central to the running of the school and there is strong support from our community of parents and carers, as reflected in our Ofsted Inspection in June 2022 which described the school as Good with Outstanding features.

Children receive a rich and varied education in our lovely grounds and we use the school minibus to help children experience trips to local sites of interest. Numbers of pupils on the special needs register and receiving free school meals are below the national average.

All staff at Bodsham CEP benefit from our Federation with Saltwood CEP by sharing staff development events, having regular opportunities for collaboration in areas such as moderation and planning and accessing the support and resources a larger school can provide.
