Clerking Vacancies - Part-time, various locations

We have exciting clerking opportunities across the Tenax Schools Trust, including a post at Brenchley and Matfield Church of England Primary School.

Reporting to the Clerk to the Trustees, and working closely with the school's Headteacher and Chair of Local Governing Body, the successful candidates will play a vital role in meeting the administrative and procedural requirements of Boards and enabling efficient and effective discussion and decision making.

You will be a dedicated person of integrity, extremely well organised, flexible and be able to maintain confidentiality. Strong administration and organisation skills are essential, as is a keen eye for detail, ability to work to deadlines, and excellent written and oral communication skills. A commitment to the aims and ethos of Tenax is important. Previous experience of governance may be advantageous although training will be provided on the specific duties and functions of a clerk for the Tenax Schools Trust.

The Tenax School Trust is a successful and growing multi-academy trust. Each school within the Trust has a Local Governing Body (LGB) with delegated responsibilities, to which a clerk must be appointed to ensure its efficient functioning. We have vacancies for a clerk at Brenchley and Matfield CHurch of England Primary School and Bennett Memorial Diocesan School (secondary school). We are happy to take applications separately or combined for these roles - please make it clear on your application form.

Board meetings tend to be held three times a year, lasting approximately 2 hours (the timings of which differ across schools but are likely to be held in evenings although some may be held in the day). Dates are set well in advance. There may be further meetings held during the year, such as extra-ordinary LGB meetings or meetings of Committee Panels. In addition to preparing for, and attending the Board meetings, administrative duties such as photocopying and filing will be carried out during school hours. Whilst some home working is possible (writing up minutes, etc.) other duties are generally carried out in school. The hours for this role will vary per month (4 - 16 per month) dependent on whether there has been a meeting to attend. In general, no work will be required during school holidays.

Should you wish to discuss any aspect of the post before applying, please do not hesitate to contact Catherine Dottridge, Company Secretary,  by telephone: 01892 521595 or email: dottridge@tenaxschoolstrust.co.uk. Further information about the Trust can be found at www.tenaxschoolstrust.co.uk.

Tenax Schools Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and wellbeing of all children and young people in our school communities and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be expected to hold or be willing to obtain an enhanced DBS disclosure issued with the Trust as the employer.

Information about the school

We are a delightful one form entry Church of England school, rated Good by Ofsted.

We pride ourselves on our strong Christian ethos promoting strong family, carers and community values. We have very close links with All Saint’s Church, Brenchley and St Luke’s Church in Matfield. We are leading contributors in collaborative learning projects enhanced by our membership of the Tenax Schools Trust, a number of local partnerships and our involvement in the wider Teaching Alliance.

The School was founded in 1842 (before the state was actively involved in education) by the Church to serve our local, and wider community and as such this remains our mission today. Our aim is to serve all children and their families of any or no religion, heritage and culture.

We currently have around 192 pupils on roll. A staff of 7 teachers, ably supported by teaching assistants and support staff, delivering the curriculum to 7 classes, ranging from the rising 5s to 11-year-olds.

We enjoy good facilities and heavily promote the use of outdoor space and learning opportunities with exciting and stimulating play areas including a well-managed and used forest area plus a large field, surrounded by trees and meadows. This includes a conservation area, netball courts and a full-sized football pitch.

Our classrooms are both colourful and spacious and we especially enjoy celebrating our learning by proudly adorning our walls with our wonderful children’s hard work and efforts. We promote the use of technology and have a modern ICT Suite. We are fully networked with first class security protection and controls that are exercised diligently. We are lucky to have a large school hall, which is perfect to enjoy our celebrations for both school worship and whole school assemblies, rather unique given we have separate dining area and kitchen. Our library is well stocked in addition to a Special Needs area and other separate areas for group or individual learning.

We are immensely fortunate to have a very strong and hugely supportive Local Governing Body who work collaboratively with us to ensure the best educational and spiritual experience for all our children in our care. Our Parent Teachers Association is hugely valued by our wider school community and again serve us exceptionally well with their hugely successful fundraising events.

We are always pleased to welcome visitors into our school and to provide the children with these additional opportunities to demonstrate their successes. Maybe you would like to come and visit us soon?
