Chef Manager

 

Full Time Permanent

(7 a.m. - 3 p.m. Monday - Friday)

(term time only + 5 staff training days)

 

Salary: Kent Range 7 (£21,510 - £24,472) Pro-Rata

Required to start: Start of term 2 - 1st November or sooner if possible

Portal House has recently been redeveloped to now include an extensive brand new kitchen - hence we are seeking to recruit a Chef!

 

You will be responsible for the kitchen i.e. what goes on in there and what comes out of the kitchen.

  • Ordering and preparing all the food.
  • Cook a healthy, yet substantial mid-day meal to serve to students, staff and visitors.
  • Manage a small team of kitchen support staff.
  • Ensure high standards of hygiene and Health & Safety.
  • Communicate effectively with a wide range of people.

Essential skills and qualities:

  1. Hands on Chef - (you are the only one!).
  2. Hold relevant qualifications.
  3. Previous successful experience of cooking large quantities of quality food to a time schedule.
  4. Design balanced weekly menus.
  5. Order in appropriate ingredients, and stay within budget.
  6. Manage kitchen support staff well.
  7. Able to keep to time deadlines and cope with occasional changes to scheduled practices.

Information about the school

All 80 students on roll have an EHC plan with SEMH or ASD as their main SEN need. Most have additional associated diagnosed and undiagnosed needs. All have a broadly average cognitive profile with behaviour presenting as the biggest barrier to accessing education.

It is essential that have a good understanding of Special Educational Needs associated with student who present with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs and or Autism and experience of working successfully with other agencies to help these children achieve positive outcomes. A high proportion of our children are eligible for pupil premium.
