Can you manage a busy office and be a welcoming 'first face' for parents and visitors?

Palm Bay Primary School is a caring and successful school in Margate, with a wonderful clifftop location opposite the picturesque Palm Bay beach.

After 17 years at Palm Bay, our Office Manager has a new job opportunity and so we are on the search for the right person to replace her.  A range of skills will be required - you must be calm, positive, welcoming, firm, patient and incisive.  You must be able to see the bigger picture and have an eye for detail.

You will be the public face of the school for parents and visitors, be able to manage the school's administrative software, to put a plaster on a child's grazed knee, help a worried parent, arrange a school trip, send out a letter, book a supply teacher - often all at the same time. Above all, you need to like children, to want the very best for them and be prepared to put their needs first.

In short, you will be an important part of the team that ensures the school continues to operate smoothly!  You will probably have a background in school or education office management - but could just as well have transferable skills from the charity or business sectors.  The high Kent Range salary (KR 7/8 £21,510 - £28,047 FTE) reflects the importance of the role.

The post is permanent, full-time, 40 weeks per year, Monday to Friday and office hours are 8.15-5.00.

The ideal candidate will have Level 4NVQ/degree/diploma qualifications.  However, evidence of applicant's relevant experience will be taken in to consideration.

For more information please contact the present Office Manager, Debbie Yeung, on 01843 290050.  Informal tours of the school are welcome and encouraged.

Information about the school

Information about the school:

At Palm Bay, we have very high expectations and standards of teaching, learning and behaviour as well as a clean, tidy, inspiring environment in which to learn and work.

We offer a broad and rounded curriculum, with plenty of opportunities for outdoor learning in our beautiful grounds and nearby beach. As an ‘Eco School’ we seek to promote care and responsibility for the environment and we have an active Eco Council. Our commitment to sports and the creative subjects is strong and we have a well-equipped music room, a specialist music teacher and a sports coach. Reading and oracy lie at the heart of our curriculum; we are committed to developing a love of reading in all children through ‘Reading for Pleasure’ and our pupils enjoy a spacious and well-stocked library.

Over the past few years, we have been developing our curriculum. The creative arts continue to remain a priority: we have four artists-in-residence who are based in our on-site studio space, close links with the Turner Contemporary Art Gallery and have gained the Gold Artsmark award. Committed to raising the aspirations and life-chances of the children we serve, we have an exciting personal development programme, which incorporates politics, careers-related learning and personal development, helping our pupils to become caring, active members of their community.

Testimonial from a current teacher:

“Palm Bay Primary School offers a welcoming and friendly community culture. Our school values of creativity, aspiration, resilience, thirst for learning, kindness and community are not only shown by the children, but by every member of staff too.

I completed my NQT year in July 2020 and have since taken on the role of staff governor and outdoor learning lead after training as a Forest School Leader. As an NQT I had weekly meetings with my mentor, supportive lesson observation feedback and I was always welcome to observe teaching practices in other classrooms. This support has continued into my second year of teaching at Palm Bay, and it is part of the ethos of our school. All staff are continually supported with their professional development through weekly CPD meetings, coaching and collaboration with other members of the team. The senior team involve the staff in key decisions and our ideas and suggestions are valued.

Pupil and staff wellbeing is also a key focus for Palm Bay. We recognise the importance of promoting positive wellbeing and mental health and we have a dedicated wellbeing team”.
