Advert

We are looking for a person able to communicate a genuine passion for teaching English language and literature, supported by a high level of subject knowledge. You will have the ability to challenge and inspire students across the full age and ability range, from Year 7 to A Level, and to support and motivate not only those aspiring to read English at university, but those who find literacy particularly challenging. You will demonstrate a high level of personal initiative, be able to work independently when required, and be eager to contribute to a friendly, dedicated, and supportive team of colleagues.

All colleagues are expected to act as a pastoral tutor, attached to a day or boarding house, and should be willing to be involved with the wider life of a busy boarding and day school.

Experienced teachers are welcome to apply or, where applicable, we provide full statutory induction for NQTs and the School is also able to train new entrants to the profession. Regardless of the level of experience, a deep vocational commitment to teaching is essential.

Information about the school

St Lawrence College is a leading co-educational HMC school educating 650 pupils from the ages of 3 to 18. Located in Ramsgate within easy walking distance of the sea, the College is set in a spacious campus housing day and boarding pupils from both local and international families. The College was founded in 1879 with the purpose of combining a careful religious training with a sound, liberal education. Today the College remains true to its founders’ vision maintaining a strong Christian ethos and supportive familial community, whilst having evolved to meet the demanding needs of a changing world.

St Lawrence College is known for ensuring pupils attain their best academically whilst also being prepared to be self-aware citizens in a global society. The College is Kent's only High Performance Learning World Class School, one of only 14 schools globally to achieve this coveted accolade. The College’s excellent facilities inspire a culture of creative learning, whilst the St Lawrence heritage and traditions provide a rich and tangible ethos for the whole community. The College community has at its heart a thriving international boarding department and is big enough to provide a wide range of opportunities, and small enough to offer bespoke care and learning for a diverse range of pupils.
