We are currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to provide classroom support to our children with autism. Salary £17,964.88 p.a. - £19,659.68 p.a, depending on experience (includes Outer London allowance). Full Time, Term Time only.

Based in Bromley, Kent, Baston House is an independent school for primary and secondary children whose statement of special educational needs describes their primary needs as Autism. Our school is friendly, vibrant and well-resourced and our staff team offer a highly differentiated curriculum to children with a wide range of ability and a diversity of challenging attributes. We work with an average class size of six and are committed to personal learning, raising aspirations and achievements.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will have a passion for working with young people, in particular those who may have received all manner of set-backs in and outside of education.

In brief, the role will involve:

  • Providing day to day classroom support to the children and assisting with pupil behaviour
  • Establishing good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and responding to individual needs
  • Encouraging pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher.
  • Helping to plan lessons by preparing materials and resources

Skills Required:

  • Qualified to Level 2 as a Teaching Assistant (or equivalent) OR have relevant experience/interest in working with children within an SEN setting or with Autism 
  • Have an understanding of the National Curriculum
  • Have the confidence to address conflict and challenging behaviour, once trained 
  • Be willing to work flexibly and constructively as part of a team
