Do you love to instil a sense of adventure into learning? Would you like to shape the next generation to be resilient, confident, independent and create learners outside of the classroom? Do you love the outdoors, no matter the weather?

Sussex Road Primary School is seeking an enthusiastic and energetic Forest School Leader to join our friendly and dynamic team to lead learning in our award-winning Forest School.

After winning the Green School Award for Best Forest School for Tonbridge and Malling 2017 and the overall Green School Award Champion for Kent 2017, we are keen to appoint a person who can drive our Forest School learning onwards and upwards.

At Sussex Road, we are proud to offer a Forest School that is based on a fundamental respect for children and their capacity to question, challenge and explore the natural world around them. Our Forest School enables learners the time and space to develop skills, interests and understanding through practical, hands-on experiences that aim to help children grow in confidence and self-esteem. We firmly believe in providing a Forest School that focuses on developing children's personal, social and emotional development through regular woodland experiences. If, like us, you firmly believe in the children's right to play; to access the outdoors; to take risks; to build resilience and to strive to enhance their holistic developments through small, achievable tasks then Sussex Road's Forest School is the one for you.

You'll see from our recent, highly complementary Ofsted inspection report that we ensure Sussex Road Primary School is an exciting place to learn and work:

  • Outdoor learning opportunities have a positive impact on pupils' personal developments, including the most vulnerable.
  • Extra-curricular activities, particularly those focused on the pupils' personal development.
  • Additional outdoor activity clubs at lunchtime provide a stimulating, safe and nurturing space for the most vulnerable pupils.
  • Relationships between staff and pupils are respectful.
  • Pupils conduct themselves well around the school. Pupils are helpful and courteous to visitors and to each other.
  • Teachers know pupils well and planned learning builds on what pupils know and can do.

We welcome applications from either Level 3 trained Forest School Leaders or Level 2 Forest School Assistants who have a willingness to work towards Level 3 status. We also welcome any applicants who have significant experience in an outdoors setting who are willing to work towards the qualification.

GCSE (or equivalent) Grade C in Maths and English are essential for this post.

This post is for 3 afternoons a week at KR7, 12.00 -16.30. Actual days are negotiable from Monday-Thursday. Although this is a fixed term post until 31st August 2018, it may be extended subject to financial review. Additional hours may also become available during the year.

Please note, this position has also been advertised under the 'Support' positions of Kent Teach.
