Information about the school

Istead Rise Primary School is located in a semi-rural village on the outskirts of Gravesend, and currently has 300 pupils on roll.

At Istead Rise there are four core values which the school works hard to instil. These are: independence, respect, perseverance and self-reflection. Istead Rise Primary School uses a Restorative Approach to manage behaviour, and deal with conflict. This approach focuses on developing positive relationships within the school and creates a safe, secure environment which enables children to develop both academically and socially.

In September 2018, we received a long awaited visit from Ofsted who judged the school to be good with many outstanding aspects including Behaviour, Pupil Welfare, Early Years and Leadership. The inspectors celebrated the pupils’ positive attitudes to learning; exemplary conduct and our successful curriculum which sparks pupils’ interests. We are proud of the exciting, memorable experiences that we offer children as part of our curriculum. Our extensive and picturesque grounds afford our children with many opportunities to take part in Forest Schools, a range of sports and a range of after school clubs.

Our school is part of Swale Academies Trust. Being a member of a highly successful Trust has enabled us to share expertise and good practice with other primary schools. Our Senior Leadership Team value all staff greatly and are committed to supporting teachers in achieving a healthy work/life balance. We are committed to reducing the overall workload of our teachers and have procedures in place, aimed at eliminating unnecessary tasks, related to planning, marking and data tracking.
