Bexleyheath Academy is a thriving and vibrant learning environment that is now at the heart of its own community.  We are part of Academies Enterprise Trust (AET), a multi-Academy sponsor which aims to provide the opportunity for all young learners to fulfil their real potential.

The individual student is and always will be at the centre of all we do. Each one is very precious to us and it is essential that all of our students enjoy the best education and experiences possible.  Our mission is to provide a positive, enjoyable and structured approach to learning where success is recognised and rewarded and students are encouraged to develop their skills. We offer a safe, secure environment with an aspirational ethos in which students can develop self-belief, self-discipline, consideration for others and enjoy positive relationships. All students have the opportunity to achieve their best. Our curriculum is broad and challenging and our pastoral care is exemplary.

We relish the opportunity and responsibility for driving student success forwards and we are very proud of the achievement of all of our young people.

We have an exciting opportunity for an inspiring English practitioner to play a key role in leading and managing our English department.  The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to develop standards and will have the drive and ability to lead and develop the curriculum and quality of teaching.  You will manage a large team and will be accountable for high standards of student progress and implementing strategies for effective intervention.  This role will also allow the right candidate to contribute to the strategic direction of the Academy.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be an outstanding practitioner
  • Have excellent leadership and management skills
  • Have an understanding of the role of literacy across the curriculum
  • Have a commitment to excellent teaching and learning opportunities for our students
  • Be committed to continuous improvement and development of the faculty
  • Be passionate and ambitious about their own career development.

In return, we can offer:

  • Excellent CPD focused in outstanding teaching and learning
  • The opportunity to gain leadership experience within a challenging yet stimulating environment
  • Opportunities to work within other academies across the AET/LAET network
  • Shadowing experienced leaders

Visits to the Academy are warmly encouraged.  If you would like to arrange a visit please contact the school office on 0208 3035696.

As  the sponsor, AET believes that all young people deserve to become world-class learners – to learn, enjoy, succeed and thrive in a first rate educational environment with the best facilities, the best teaching and the most up-to-date resources available to them.  In each of our academies, you will benefit from visionary, inspirational and dynamic leadership and be empowered to develop your own skills with access to world-class CPD and Talent Management programmes.  You will also be entitled to the following benefits: a health cash plan, vehicle affinity scheme, childcare vouchers and Westfield rewards.

The position is required to commence September 2017.

Information about the school

Bexleyheath Academy is proud to be a non-selective school in the grammar heartland of Kent. Bexleyheath Academy is quickly approaching capacity with students; in order to accommodate the demands of the local community and grow our skilled staff, we must expand.

Joining a flourishing school at this time is an amazing opportunity!

With immediate train access to Central London and easy access to the Kent countryside, Bexleyheath has the best of both worlds. Despite having a Kent postcode, Bexleyheath is classified as Greater London due to its strategic location between Welling, Sidcup, and Bexley village. You can reach Dartford for the river crossing with a short drive along the A2.

Its thriving hub is The Broadway – a shopping district with added appeal in the shape of a bowling alley, cinema and a growing number of restaurants. A little beyond Bexleyheath and you’re at Bluewater, Ashford for the designer outlet and international rail travel to Europe.
