WYE SCHOOL

Teacher of English for September 2017

Wye School opened in September 2013 with a single intake of Year 7 students.  This September we welcomed our fourth year’s intake and are currently preparing our first GCSE cohort for examinations in 2018.  This is a comprehensive (all ability) school with a profile of around 90% of students estimated to achieve at least 5 Grade 9 - 4 with English and Mathematics, based on entry scores. In June 2015, Ofsted praised our, ‘very vibrant and strong leadership ..clear and aspirational vision,’ and, ‘high level of ambition for the students and the school.’ We are heavily over-subscribed and are only interested in appointing people who actually like young people and the challenges of teaching them.

We are now looking to add to our close-knit team of dedicated and dynamic teaching staff. For September 2017 we are looking to appoint a Teacher of English. The English team is well-established with schemes of learning that are assessed by KPIs and a programme of study built on progression to AQA GCSE Language and Literature for all students.  This autumn our Year 10 cohort took part in standardized tests organized by United Learning for Year 11 students. In spite of being a year behind their counterparts, our students performed in-line with the national cohort, with many above the 80th percentile, so they are well prepared for success at GCSE. We welcome applications from candidates with varying degrees of experience, including NQTs.

Wye School is a small, establishing school which is currently undergoing an exciting building programme. You will join an enthusiastic, committed and highly supportive team of staff. Because we are developing, this appointment would give you the exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of developments and decision-making. We work closely with all staff to involve them in all matters, particularly with regard to key areas like workload and policy making. This appointment will also afford you that rare opportunity to teach across the ability range in Kent.

Application Details

Applications will be considered on receipt. Suitable candidates will be interviewed on receipt of application and Wye School reserves the right to withdraw the position if an early appointment is made.

Information about the school

Wye School has a vision of excellence, a vision shared by all staff and students. Rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in 2018, the school is dedicated to ensuring each student gains the knowledge, confidence and skills to make a success of their future lives. The school caters for Years 7 -13 with a roll of 600, housed in a new building situated in the beautiful Kent Downs countryside, offering an outstanding environment for staff and students. The first GCSE results in 2018 were above average for Progress 8 and above national average Attainment 8, and followed by an equally strong second set of results in 2019. Students are well behaved and hard working and our staff form a friendly and committed team. As the smallest local secondary school, great pride is taken in strong relationships internally and with parents and the community.

Located within close proximity of Wye village centre, the school is at the very heart of the local community and has the potential to grow into a truly exceptional school. Wye is perfectly located to enjoy the Kent countryside, whilst still being within an hour of London thanks to HS1.
