We are seeking to appoint a qualified nurse for 37 hours per week, term-time plus one week to support pupils' health and personal care needs within this outstanding special school.

 

Applications are invited from registered child, adult or learning disability nurses, preferably with post registration paediatric experience.  Applications from candidates from other medical backgrounds who would like to utilise and build upon existing knowledge and skills and those returning to work from a career break will also be considered.  The successful applicant will be expected to work within school hours and would benefit from the flexibility of term-time working.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Liaise with a range of NHS professionals including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, paediatricians and GPs.
  • Manage medication in school.
  • Oversee administration of PEG tube feeds
  • Oversee provision of suctioning
  • Oversee administration of general first aid and provide appropriate response to medical emergencies including epileptic seizures
  • Produce and update care plans for all pupils with medical needs.
  • Deliver training to school staff.
  • Maintain medical records.
  • Work closely with parents and staff.

 

Salary will be dependent on experience but is likely to be Kent Range 7 or 8, the equivalent to Band 5 of the NHS Pay Scale.  An SEN allowance of £1,241 per annum will also be paid.
