Folkestone Primary Kindergarten are currently seeking a Teaching Assistant to work in our Kindergarten to support the existing staff in providing meaningful learning opportunities for the children and contributing to children’s progress and development. We are a close-knit team and we have fantastic children in our setting, who are eager to learn. This position will not be a key worker role, but a supportive role to work with all children in the setting.

Successful applicants will be qualified to NVQ Level 2 or 3 in childcare, and have recent experience of working with young children. Folkestone Primary Kindergarten has recently begun accepting two year old children, so we would be particularly keen to receive applications from practitioners with experience in this age range, though it is not essential. We are looking for candidates with a detailed working knowledge of the EYFS curriculum ‘Development Matters’ and we will be asking for examples of effective activities that have been planned to develop a certain area of the EYFS curriculum. It would also be an advantage to have experience of working with children with Special Educational Needs and/or Speech and Language difficulties, but we would value any extra expertise or experience that candidates could bring to the role.

Core responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking observations of children’s learning and assessing against the areas of learning set out in the EYFS curriculum
  • Setting out and clearing activities during the sessions
  • Supporting the Teacher and other Kindergarten practitioners with whole class carpet time activities
  • Leading a range of adult-led activities
  • Leading a planned group time session for a small group of children
  • Contributing planning ideas for topics
  • Building up a detailed knowledge of the children in session and supporting these children’s key workers in offering input and suggestions for children’s next step targets and assessment
  • Identifying gaps in children’s knowledge and understanding based on observations made
  • Scaffolding and extending children’s play to develop new skills, language and understanding of concepts, including seizing opportunities to develop children’s learning ‘in the moment’
  • Modelling a high standard of spoken language and talk to the children
  • Communicating with parents
  • Safeguarding all children in the setting and being aware of the academy’s child protection policies and protocol (for which full training will be given)

In return, Folkestone Academy Kindergarten will offer you:

  • Enthusiastic and inquisitive children
  • A friendly, hard-working and supportive team
  • A forward-thinking and innovative environment with brand new, state-of-th
