Business Manager

Full time, 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year

Kent Range 12 £43,210 - £50,608.

27 days’ holiday per year, increasing to 30 days after 5 years’ service.

This is an exciting opportunity to head up an enthusiastic and hard-working Finance Team, which sits within the Business Operations Team, currently providing Finance, HR and IT services to The Malling School and The Holmesdale School.

The role and its responsibilities are split equally between the two schools, so the ability to drive and have access to your own transport is essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide strategic support to the Headteachers and Governing Bodies on all aspects of school business management.
  • Participate in strategic decision making as a member of the schools’ Senior Leadership Teams to ensure that the business service implications of all decisions are duly considered and particularly that all financial implications are rigorously explored to ensure the viability of strategic decisions.
  • Ensure an effective link between the school financial plan and the School Improvement Plan.
  • Manage the disciplines of finance, premises and health & safety.
  • Maximise the use of financial resources and generate sources of income for the school.
  • To lead and manage the Finance Team and other relevant support staff.

 PERSON SPECIFICATION SUMMARY

  • Relevant professional qualification.
  • Proven and successful experience of relevant financial management in an organisation

  • Independently able to propose solutions to problems within an overall strategic plan.

  • Experience of leadership of a team of staff ideally including those not directly supervised throughout the day.
  • Managing budgets, financial reporting.
  • Evidence of the ability to devolve responsibilities, delegate tasks and monitor outcomes.
  • A high level of communication skills orally and in writing.
  • Resilience, enthusiasm, creativity and a sense of humour.
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Able to work under pressure, meet deadlines, keep calm.
  • Possess integrity, honesty, perceptiveness and a commitment to fairness.

Information about the school

A mixed 11-19 co-educational High School of 1000 pupils serving the historic market town of West Malling and surrounding villages. The school is set in pleasant rural surroundings and has its own lake and extensive grounds. It was completely re-built in September 2007 and therefore has outstanding facilities.

West Malling is close to the county town of Maidstone and has excellent rail links to London and Ashford International (for the Continent).
