“Great leaders don’t set out to be a leader…they set out to make a difference. It’s never about the role – always about the goal!”

If this resonates true to you, then read on, as you are exactly the leader Upton needs…

We are looking to appoint an inspirational Assistant Headteacher to join our successful junior school.

Are you an aspiring Headteacher? We are looking to recruit an ambitious senior leader who would like to develop and hone their leadership skills before taking that courageous step in to Headship.

Applicants do not need to currently be on a Leadership Team but must be able to show that they have proven school leadership experience that has had a significant impact on the whole school. Above anything else, you must have an uncompromising passion for teaching and believe that you can make the necessary contribution to ensuring the best start for every child, both leading teaching yourself and by taking whole school leadership responsibility.

Our Assistant Headteacher will:

• Be a courageous school leader – our pupils deserve a first class educational experience. You must firmly believe this and be prepared to question practices in the school that do not match the high standards we expect from every member of the Upton staff.

• Take the leading role for Curriculum and Standards throughout the school

• Be an excellent role model for staff and pupils

• Liaise effectively with parents, staff, governors and the wider community

• Understand the importance of assessment data and use this to track progress and attainment of all pupils

• Have excellent interpersonal skills

Our commitment to you:

You can expect:

• 520 talented pupils, each deserving an Assistant Headteacher that will willingly go that extra mile to ensure they succeed.

• Excellent CPD including NPQH or other leadership training for the right candidate

• A supportive school community with excellent facilities (including our newly refurbished swimming pool!)

• A well supported staff team, committed to ensure all pupils achieve their potential

• The challenge and opportunity to take a pivotal role in maintaining our “outstanding status” (Ofsted 2014)

This role will have a teaching responsibility however, will have significant release time to ensure your Leadership role can be fulfilled.

Prospective candidates will be expected to make a visit to the school.

Previous applicants for a Leadership position within the Viking Academy Trust need not reapply.  Applications will be carried forward.

Please contact the Executive Headteacher, Mrs Michaela Lewis for further details

The Viking Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the care and welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to follow this commitment.  Appointment to this post will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service records check and references.
