Teacher of Science – Physics

Outstanding Teachers required

Location: Wye, Ashford, Kent

Salary: Competitive

To start: Monday 20 February 2017

Closing Date: Friday 3 February 2017

Wye School opened in September 2013 with Year 7 students in three forms of entry.  This September we will welcome our fifth year’s intake and so need to expand our staff.  We are heavily over-subscribed and have already acquired an impressive reputation for our distinctive approach to teaching and learning, commitment to innovation and single-minded pursuit of best practice.

We are now looking to add to our team of dedicated and dynamic teaching staff.  In Science you will join a highly skilled and vastly experienced team of practitioners.  We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and driven Teacher of Science, preferably Physics or with the ability to teach Physics at GCSE. This is to be a permanent role, but we would consider fixed term appointment until end of this academic year

The Science team is well-established with schemes of learning which lead into AQA GCSE (both separate and combined double award).  Science has a strong enrichment programme, including trips to Wildwood, the Big Bang Festival and the Salters Chemistry Festival. Annually we commemorate British Science Week through primary Gifted and Talented events and a series of inspiring workshops. In addition, we offer a range of after school Science clubs, including the Crest Award.

We welcome applications from candidates with varying degrees of experience, including NQTs. There is an expectation that all staff, teaching and support, contribute to our extensive programme of activities, which offers opportunities as diverse as Crest Award, fencing, allotment tending, poi, knitting, golf and Boxercise.

Wye School works closely with Ashford School (Independent School of the Year in 2011), in a model of state-independent partnership unique to United Learning. It is a small, establishing school and this appointment would give you the exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of developing the curriculum, resources and strategy within your subject area and the wider school.

If you are interested in finding out more about working at Wye School, please contact us directly through office@wyeschool.org.uk and we can arrange a mutually agreeable time for you to visit. We are happy to do this after school hours.

Interview dates to be confirmed.

United Learning is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. A DBS (previously CRB) check is required for all successful applicants.

Information about the school

Wye School has a vision of excellence, a vision shared by all staff and students. Rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in 2018, the school is dedicated to ensuring each student gains the knowledge, confidence and skills to make a success of their future lives. The school caters for Years 7 -13 with a roll of 600, housed in a new building situated in the beautiful Kent Downs countryside, offering an outstanding environment for staff and students. The first GCSE results in 2018 were above average for Progress 8 and above national average Attainment 8, and followed by an equally strong second set of results in 2019. Students are well behaved and hard working and our staff form a friendly and committed team. As the smallest local secondary school, great pride is taken in strong relationships internally and with parents and the community.

Located within close proximity of Wye village centre, the school is at the very heart of the local community and has the potential to grow into a truly exceptional school. Wye is perfectly located to enjoy the Kent countryside, whilst still being within an hour of London thanks to HS1.
